Sending A Parvel To Italy

I need to send a parcel to Italy, it weighs 10-12 Kg, Royal mail want £101+VAT which is horendous. The person I am sending it to recomends interlink or DPD and says it should be around £30, well I can't actually see any way of sending with these couriers and in the past I've always found that couriers charge a private customer more than Royal Mail.

Should I open an account with one of them ? (I also run my own business anyway)

Can anyone suggest a good courier

I tried it using 12Kg and 60x50x50 cm and got quotes under £30.
