Sony Vaio Windows 8 Not Opening!

I was watching a programme on it, and then had a siesta, when I went to turn it on again a couple of hours later it all siezed up and now whenever I turn it on it diagnoses my system and then cannot restore or mend, so I turn it off take the battery out wait a while and still nothing happens, just repeats the diagnosing and trying to restore but can't. Is there anything I can do ?
