If you don’t need colour printing and do not print onto heavy-weight paper (>100g/m2) – then I would recommend a budget mono laser printer. They can be purchased for less than £50 and do not contain ink cartridges that can dry out due to prolonged inactivity.
However you need to be aware that the manufacturers play the same game as with ink jets, in that the toner cartridges can cost the same as the laser printer.
Therefore you need to check that ebay sellers are selling refill toner (typically costing £10 that will do for 2+ refills) and that if fitted, reset chips are also cheap.
It can be a bit messy refilling the toner cartridge, which normally involves removing a bung and filling using a funnel or some such device. But with low usage – you should not need to refill more than once in 2 years.
