Did this happen long ago?
Try a system restore to a point before it started.
sorry,
Are we talking "Pointer" (as in mouse pointer) or "Cursor" in a word processor place marker?
I had this problem too, I plugged in a usb mouse and the cursor came back up, then i went into device manager and selected hid mouse and updated the device drivers and although it said this device is working properly, it solved the problem and i removed the usb mouse and all is well now. Hope that helps mate

I mean pointer, but will not allow a usb mouse either (not recognised) also there is a screen icon on the bottom of the screen with a red cross, I think it may mean tactile screen which doesn't work either?
Question Author
PeelerPal, I have managed to get another usb mouse to work erratically, so where do I find the device manager on Wind 8?
Right click on the home page (the one with the tiles) and select "Show all apps", scroll to the right and it's on the far right under "Windows System"
netibiza - just a thought but some laptops allow you to turn off the touchpad with a key combination, usually the Fn key and one of the F keys.
Is this a possibility?

Oh it is so difficult, I hate windows 8, and it's all in Spanish and way above my head! No idea Wyedyed, I am restoring the system at the moment, but it has always been erratic, so I think it should go back to Sony before the guarantee runs out!
Question Author
Well that system restore seems to have worked magic, I now have my pointer back, but I think it still needs looking at. Thank you all very much, you have all helped. ♥
You're more than welcome ;0)
Well nitibiza don't think I am a techie but have had problems. Can you try this before you bring computer back to Sony. From where you are go down to start and click onto Control Panels - look out Mouse symbol - click onto Pointer and there should be a click - at click on pointer - "enable pointer" - If you are happy with the speed of the pointer you if you want to go into pointer options and slide the slider up and down for faster or slower speed. either apply or ok. let me know if this worked. Good luck
sorry my answer has coincided wy

Thanks connemarra, I've done all that, but this windows 8 is a beggar, I'm really thinking of having xp installed instead.
Question Author
I somehow managed to turn off the red cross on the screen symbol, and after restore, all is OK (fingers crossed)
sorry said I am a technie - should read my answers more - no I am NOT a technie I am on XP but since I have told you I am NOT a techie - what is the difference between 8 and XP. Could you please explain tthat to me. Thanks
Don't go back to XP, if you are going to downgrade, try Windows 7.

Type Your Answer Here...Oh that is excellent Wyedyed, am printing it off. Thank you.

Connemarra, there is an awful lot of difference between xp and 8, totally different in operating, and at my advanced age (68) just cannot get to grips with it. I manage the basic stuff.
Question Author
but I found win 7 to be even more difficult, my daughter has it, must admit I didn't use it much, why would changing to xp be a bad idea?
Question Author
Oh look Wyedyed, on the disable touch pad there is that little icon with a cross, that's what I must have done inadvertantly! Thanks so much.
