I'm trying to send an email but the 'send' option on my hotmail has disappeared.
The place where it's usually located, along with 'reply/forward' has been replaced with a Avira toolbar?

Ah Desky, you're so lovely :-)
No need to worry, I was fine. It was so strong though, I was really spaced out for ages!

How are you? Did you have a nice weekend?

Thanks Ron :-)
I can't even open internet explorer to see if that works. It's all gone a bit mental.
If it doesn't work after a full shut down of the laptop (not just sleep or restart) and then a normal start up, then I'd run Malwarebytes to check for nasties.

Ah, ok, I've not shut down for a little while so I'll try that.
Would uninstalling Avira do the job?
Is that your only antivirus? Or has something 'added' the toolbar for you.

IObit malware fighter and avira are what I have. I have no idea to be honest, this is my son's laptop.

Don't remove Avira entirely then - it's protecting you - but you might try hiding the toolbar on your Internet Explorer page.

I don't use IE so can't remember exactly how you do that - possibly right-click with the mouse on the toolbar & see what the options are?
MM. I gave up on IE ages ago & also had probs with both Firefox & Chrome. Have now Googled & downloaded Mozilla Seamonkey & am finding that quite good with emailing & Answerbank. If you wish to try it see link below.

Nothing happens when I right click it? Weird.

I'll have a look at that sea monkey thing. Thanks.
Sea Monkey does have a reasonable amount to offer. Whether it will sort-out your E/mail problem is questionable because at the moment lots of folk are experiencing problems with their original 'Hotmail' accounts and I have my doubts that it is a Browser issue.

I've given up with it now. I shut down the laptop, and had a look on that sea monkey but it was still doing the same.
I can't seem to get rid of that Avira toolbar, which is what's in the way.

From what I have read on the Internet, it is not all that easy to get rid of Avira.

However before putting forward my further thoughts on the issue concerned, perhaps you are able to say if Avira just arrived without any invite or whether you choose to install it initially. Furthermore, do you have any other Anti Virus programmes, because more than a single programme has been known to play havoc with E/mails connections.

Windows 8, Chrome. I have just managed to open IE and the toolbar wasn't there so I was able to send an email. It just seems to be appearing when I use Chrome.
Tried to uninstall the toolbar, but it won't let me.

Personally, I would try getting completely shot of Avira from the Computer and installing a different free AV programme. My choice would be MSE( Microsoft Security Essentials.) Try the following links.:-

Oops.... Just realised that you are operating on Windows 8 which has an updated Windows Defender and MSE is not required.

Consequently it's now my view that you should un-install Avira without any need of a replacement AV programme.

I wonder if methyl agrees.

Thanks for the further responses. I have tried uninstalling Avira, but for some strange reason it won't let me. The bar goes so far, whilst saying 'uninstalling' and then tells me I need to close down all windows before it can uninstall - which I've already done.
I'm having to switch between using Chrome for everyday internet, and using IE for sending emails. It's really annoying.
There has to be an answer to your problem. I did indicate that it might be difficult to get rid of Avira. Nevertheless, I am still searching for an Answer and am living in hope that methyl will post again, because he is a genuine Techie, which I regret I am not.
