Initially managed to import my music into my music on windows 8. But now cannot add any more. Found a site which I have followed with no success. Is there a site that gives you an idiots guide to this?

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. It looks like you have to change the " Permissions" to the folders that you have copied. I haven't quite got to the bottom of Win 8 permissions yet but here is my best offer at the moment: I am assuming that the music files have copied over onto your hard drive. Downloaded some music from external hard drive. As I said it worked well initially but trying to download more music is becoming problematic. Some of my music has been protected which I think is contributing to the problems. But tried a folder that wasn't it accepted the information but not the music. As it is a new computer would like to do this in an organised way, so I don't end up with a mess as usual.

I am assuming that the music files have copied over onto your hard drive.
Go to the copied file and Right click it; select Properties and click the Security Tab.
Click Advanced and then ADD; enter your User Name and make sure it has full access (make sure all the boxes are ticked)
I'll check in tomorrow to see if this has been helpful or if someone has offered a better answer

Thank you wyeDyed,
I will keep it brief. Last computer I had my music all over the place and as we have a new laptop was trying to keep it more organised. Windows 8 seems to use something called my music linked to Xbox. I was trying to import music from external hard drive but that won't work. I have to put the music in my library for this to happen, I did not understand this!
Some of my music that I ripped in the past has been protected which will not go into my music because of this. I have to go online and open a Microsoft account that is linked to Xbox but this seems very long winded so I will just play that through my windows media player.
Thank you for your help it has been appreciated!!
