Excel Formula Needed

I'm sooo thick, I can't work out which formula to use to get net profit as a percentage. Help me please!!!

Net profit as a percentage of what? Sales? Are you looking for the percent change from last period's profit?

I'm just after the profit margin. I have a cost of 5317.05 with sell of 7530.00. I know this gives me a profit margin of 29.39%, I just need the excel formula for it.

=(sell-cost)*100/sell

Where you can replace sell and cost by their cell numbers, or use some excel wizardry to rename the cells as whatever you want.

Don't multiply by 100; the answer is not 29.39, it's 0.2939. Format the cell as % if you want it to display as 29.39%.

Note that If you have formatted the excel cell to display the information as a percentage you should omit the *100 in Jim's formula

=(sell-cost)/sell. Just omit the 100 from Jim's formula.

It's just:

=(sell-cost)/sell

and then format cell to display percentage (right click, format cell option).

Yeah, and sorry for throwing in the *100. Just carelessly entered what I'd do on a calculator and forgot about the formatting options.

Surely its =(sell-cost)/cost.

You started with 5317.05 and made a profit of 2212.95. That's 41.6% profit.
