I have been getting messages when visiting some websites saying "You are still using IE6 you need to upgrade to IE7" Ive been onto the MS website to get the upgrade but they tell me I already have IE8 installed.

Whats going on? any ideas

Thank you everhelpful, Ive not gone to another browser as i dont want to loose my web visits history (for want of a better description) I find that useful.

You have not said what OS you are using but I assume you are still using XP well the default browser for XP is IE8 and would have been upgraded when you downloaded your automatic updates by Microsoft. The default browsers as set out by Microsoft are IE8 FOR XP , IE9 for VISTA, IE10 for Windows 7&8 . They are changed for security reasons by Microsoft for your ptotection
