An Ebay Cautionary Tale
13 Answers
A few on here may remember my issue with eBay regarding the sale of a couple of figourines early June, when the buyer reported that the 2 figourines were not as described but had been previously damaged and repaired.
She opened a case immediately even though I was able to provide 12 pictures taken prior to packing that showed they were in mint condition. eBay settled the claim in her favour and refunded her and took the funds from me, solely based on the fact that the buyer wasd able to providse a tracking number for the return parcel.
I collected the parcel from the PO this afternnon. The 2 figures are clearly not the ones sent, these returned ones are indeed showing repairs, they are also filthy, covered in dust and cigarette smoke and the embossed marks in the bases are different to those i posted on my selling page. eBay have now apologised, re-opened the case, decided immediately in my favour and also been able to report the 'buyer' and collate all her accounts at the home address and suspend her from the site.
So, seller beware, the con artists are out there, she's got 2 figures in perfect condition for free! I have a pair of filthy grubby paint spattered damaged figures which eBay suggest i chuck in the bin. they do not want me to return them to her as she may be able to use them again ,

At least ebay sorted it in the end. Thank god you had photos to prove your case. I had a similar problem I sold a brand new camera lens to a buyer in the USA. He asked for a full refund plus postage as it was '' damaged, dirty and had a chip in the glass'' which i knew was untrue. He wanted the refund but to keep the lens as well as he said it was not fair that he had to pay for return postage.
I was going to give him a 50% refund but he escalated it to ebay . They gave him 10 days to send it back and upload details of the tracking code. He didn't do it so ebay found in my favour . I am sure it was a scam he just thought he could get a free item by threatening that he would report me to ebay but it backfired.
