Removing A Usb
17 Answers
I have put in a USB to save my programmes but my granddaughter said I couldn't just remove it when it finished, but I had to click on the icon in lower right hand corner and wait till it was safe to eject. Is this right and if so Help please as I don't have an icon for usb!

I think stopping a device is more important for an external hard drive, that has a spinning disk.
Pulling out the cable while the disk is spinning could cause loss of data or even loss of the whole drive.
I am not sure it so important for a USB stick, though if it was in the middle of having a file written to it, or read from it, when it was pulled out it may cause problems.
Better to be safe than sorry, you could lose all your data if you don't stop it first.
