Rover 400 abs problem

I have got a strange spring sound and feeling in my foot when I press my brake pedle at low speed, the car went in for a rear suspension bush and ever since I have had this problem, the garage says it is nothing to do with them " its the ABS pump its broken" they say and it isn't a problem that needs to be fixed but it will cost a fortune if you do, does anybody know of a remedy to the problem?
