I have borrowed a Garmin nuvi sat nav (can't find the lead for himself's) but it doesn't recognise the post code or name of the place I want to visit, it wont let me enter the street name either and I can't find a way to make it give me a route avoiding the motorway. Anyone got any ideas please? Thanks

Are you in Scotland trying to travel to England? Or in England trying to travel to Wales?

Basically, if you are intending to go to another country you need to select the country first and THEN type in the post code.

No, in Hereford trying to get to a specific place.might have to try and find the lead to ours.
If it won't recognise the place you want to visit, try entering the name of the nearest bigger town, then the street. - it might come under that

Thanks all, I'll have another go with it in the morning (flipping technology) - at this rate I will have to get the teenager to print me out a route from the AA site.
Buy a road map! They're only £1-99 from a cheapo book shop.

Iklesboy, have you seen my profile? I am female, ergo, I have no sense of direction (sorry fellow females, but it is true in my case). I have already planned things so I don't have to navigate the stupid multi storey and I am going to get there super early before it gets busy so I can stop the car (wouldn't exactly call it parking).
use google maps.........

https://maps.google.co.uk/

simle and gives you all directions.
