Word Document – Urgent Help Needed Please

I’m working on a multiple page Word document where everything is in text boxes – something I’ve been doing regularly for years. Suddenly, every page is appearing joined up to the next and with lines in between each, but minus the top inch or so and the bottom inch or so of each page – and the ruler on the left hand side of the screen changes size with each page I scroll to.

What on earth have I touched that could have caused this?

Can someone please help me to change it back to normal?

Naomi, you may have gone into web layout. Go to View at the top and press Normal layout. That might work.
i would try the undo button which takes you back step by step (click "edit" or "File" then select undo. as many times it takes until the mistake is gone.

Tried that Tilly. It's in print layout. My computer doesn't appear to have 'normal' layout.
Question Author
Done that vipersnest24. It didn't work.
Question Author
It looks fine in Print Preview, so the document itself is clearly ok - but I can't work on it there.
So you have a Word Document open and when you go to view it doesn't say Normal, Web Layout and Print Layout? That is odd, Naomi. I can't help then but someone who can will be along soon, I'm sure.
Question Author
It seems to have sort of 'tucked' each page under the next, hiding the top and bottom of each - and putting lines between them all.
Question Author
Tilly, I have: ‘Print Layout, ‘Full Screen Reading’, ‘Web Layout’, ‘Outline’ and ‘Draft’. No ‘Normal’.
Did you save it when you last worked on it? Did you inadvertently press 'Save as Wb Page'? That might be it. Try a normal Save. See if that works.
Question Author
Nope. Still the same. What the hell could I have done? It has to be something simple. This is disastrous!
Nami, try this.
Open the document
>File
>Save as
When the blue window comes up go to the slot at the bottom which says
Save as type
Click on the arrow on the right
Select -Word Document.

That should do it.

Tilly! I've dunnit! I put the cursor on the line between two pages and a message came up 'Double-click to show white space'. I double-clicked - and voila!! Still don't know what I did to cause it - and if anyone can tell me I won't do it again - but it's back to normal! I am so relieved!

Thank you so much for trying to help me. x
I'm glad you've got it sorted.
Question Author
The relief! There's such a lot of work there. Thanks again, Tilly. :o)
What you did to cause it was just what you did to get rid of it. If you place your cursor at the very bottom of any page you'll be offered the option "Hide White Space".

Bet you don't do it again now.
Question Author
SeaJayPea, I tried it on a test document - and you're right!! Thank you. I won't do it again - but if I make a mistake at least I'll know how to escape!! With so much work in peril, that was truly scary! Thank you.
