What I know about an ipad wouldn't even fill my little finger nail but I might get one. I have a desk top computer and am self taught there. I use it to Google info, email, ebay and things like that...nothing very intricate.

Now my first question is how many gb would I want .....one person has said 64 and another has said 16 hmmmmmm I think I am talking about gb's.

First question to ask yourself is "Why do I want it and what do I intend to use it for ?"

Thanks squad.
Actually the first question is do I actually want a iPad or do I want a tablet.

It is like thinking you need a vacuum cleaner and only thinking of buying a "hoover" because that is what many people call them.

There are plenty of makes of tablet, and they are not all iPads.

Note many of them run software called Android that is produced by Google. An iPad does NOT run Android but software called iOS made by Apple.

So do consider a Samsung Tablet running Android.

They have recently brought out a new range of tablets (Galaxy Tab 3) and they are every bit as good as iPads but a bit cheaper.

I only use my ipad for wasting time, if I needed to do something 'serious' I would do it on my laptop. Agree with the others though, have a look at some of the other tablets before you buy (boy#1 has a Nexuus and boy#2 has a Kindle Fire and they are both pleased with them).

I didn't know about ipads and tablets....I've never heard the word tablet (I live in Denmark) but now I know there are two types and can build on that...thanks.....what are the differences?
Always go for the big one the price difference is minimal. And yes get one. It's my best friend apart from abers

Thanks everyone for your input which have brought me one step closer to buying one.
I bought an ipad2 (18 months ago) for exactly the same reasons as yourself. I did not want another laptop. I wanted something portable. I too am self taught.
I can count on one hand how many times I have used my laptop in that time. The ipad2 does everything I want it to. I bought the ipad2 16gb. I downloaded all my music through iTunes (once I had set that up).
The only problem with it is I should have bought the biggest memory available but not knowing how much I would use it and what it does I was naive in that.
I am now totally an apple convert. It was more expensive than others but a rolls Royce is more money than a ford focus.
I went to our local PC World store for advise and then our local Apple Store. The Apple store won.

Thank you so much Sycamore. I really appreciate you taking time to give me your answer which has given me a great deal of confidence for making a decision.
Hi xstitcher. I have an ipad4 and it rarely leaves my side. I was ipad and apple illiterate when I got it but picked it up quickly. It is easier then a computer as its much more user ready when you buy it.

I still use my laptop for storing and sending photos but that's just me. Also there are a handful of websites I use that are not ipad ready, and occaisionally I find cutting and pasting easier on the laptop, but other than that its on all day and every day. Because its so fast and easily opened, here I am now wasting time on it when I should be on my way to work!!

Let me know when you get it, we'll chat!
I am the same as maydup it is easy to use and less messing with than a computer. Was going to get the larger Gb but 16does me as I use it exactly like you said you will yours. I am very happy using the iPad and I am sure you will wonder why you didn't get one before. All the best in your decision.
