I love avocados, but have had terrible luck with them this year. I buy any...the so called ripe 'n ready,'value ' range minis, ordinary Hass to ripen at home. They've all been nasty since early July. Black and quite useless inside. Its a terrible waste of money. Is it due to storage methods? I know they are not supposed to be refrigerated.

I buy mine from the market. They are as hard as nails but soon ripen up at home where I can keep an eye on them.

I'll give the market a go tomorrow. Any thing is better than what the supermarkets are serving up...and they had been lovely earlier in the season.
You can refrigerate them if you want. It stops them ripening so quickly in hot weather. I have done so without harming them.
The supermarkets do not worry what they taste like or the flavour. They are only there because they have a long shelf life. Go to a proper greengrocer otherwise it serves you right

I meant to check at the market when I was in town today. Will do on the weekend.
