Upgrading A Computer....

When we bought a computer for home a few years ago, it was just to mess about on and get hubby into the habit of using one so we just asked for a basic package. The internet part of it runs slowly and sometimes stalls. Now he has a new job and will need to work from home a lot more. Will upgrading the computer and investing in a better package be worthwhile (something about Pentel rings a bell)? Our neighbours are on the same broadband network as we are and their internet runs well, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we don't need to change broadband providers. We have Windows Vista at home at the minute, and would get the newer one, but are there are any other improvements to be made?

Thanks SlackAlice - I've printed your answer as I'll never in a million years remember any of it when we come to buy. Thank you.

And I knew what you meant.... :)
Hi Misky, just found this thread again. I concur with the others, you could add RAM but the processor is slow; it could benefit from windows 8 but there may be compatibility problems. The cost of RAM and Win 8 will be over £100 and there is nothing you can do to speed up the processor.
I do quite like Acers at the moment and £300 - £350 will get you something more than adequate.
Good luck
