Looking For Some Photo Database Software, If There Is Such A Thing?

I take hundreds of photos for work and I need a database so I can find what I'm looking for) I'm not looking for editing software, more something that can enable me to use keywords (e.g. landscape, water, red) at the moment everything is filed according to the month/year, which is a nightmare as I can barely remember what I did last week.

Can't you just create folders and sort out pics once downloaded ?

Not really because of cross matching. A picture maybe a Landscape and it may also feature architecture. To have two or more copies of the same photo stored on my harddrive just in different folders at 20mb a piece would take up too much room).

a quick google search turns up loads of them
if youre on Mac then its already got Iphoto
Theres Adobe bridge, Irfan view etc etc

Microsoft provide Photo Gallery for free that you can download from the web.

It is part of Windows Essentials 2012

This not only displays the photos in date order, but allows you to put tags or keywords against individual photos.

can't you just rename them using keywords as well as places? Then a search within My Pictures will call up all the photos tagged Architecture.

You don't need to label them with month/year because My Pictures already offers that as a viewing option.

What version of windows do you run? You can use the universal search on windows 7-8 to find photos named a certain thing.

You would have to name every photo the keywords relating to it - which would be very time consuming...

Hi AB and everyone, I'm running a Mac, I think Adobe Bridge seems to fit the bill (sort of) jno your idea is probably the simplest, trouble is the file names would be ridiculously long, I need to file subject, visual metaphor (if any), architecture (indoor/outdoor), lighting etc . . . in fact the list is getting ridiculous, I've started on Bridge this morning, I've only got another 12 months worth of pics to do, should be done by 2014! ;-)

It allows for searching by keywords and has a radio button for landscape/portrait searching so no keywording on that attribute is needed. Also has decent keyword entry features.
