keyboard working all wrong?

hi all

i recently had a laptop/notebook bought for me

i had lots of problems at the beginning (bluescreening etc) finally the shop where my partner bought it has fixed it and returned it.

but when i type certain things it comes out all wrong

when i press @ key it types" and when i type  # i get | etc whats going on ,why and how do i fix it?

ive read previous posts about going to regional/language settings and tried changing it all to english (uk) but it doesnt seem to of worked ?

do i need to restart or have i not done it correctly?

go to control panel - Keyboard then on left it says language and on the right it says "Layout"n Click properties and then set the layout to British. Remember it's the right hand side under "layout" that should say British.
