Samsung Galaxy Factory Reset ?

My Galaxy S2 has started misbehaving beyond the point of being 'amusing' or 'a foible'.

From being pretty much perfect (until last weekend) it has become horribly sluggish and prone to locking up and/or random re-booting.

It may be hardware (it's three years old & I don't give it an easy life), but it has all the feel of a software bug - probably some random automatic update of either the android system or a samsung driver/app.

I'm pondering doing a 'Factory Reset' (on the grounds that the pain of a re-build afterwards will be no worse than if I have to buy a new phone) and wondered if anyone had any experience of this - particularly about preserving any data and/or apps through the reset.

Alternative suggestions also welcome - but note that I have already tried "shout very loudly at it" and "hit it quite hard".

Cheers

You could try going through each of your apps in the Play Store and instead of updating you should uninstall and then reinstall any you want to keep. You'll probably find that while doing this you won't even bother reinstalling half of them.

I would give it try Sunny, you have nothing to loose.
I suggest you update the firmware.
I was having similar problems to you.
Updated the firmware and it is perfect.

Thank you all.

I have updated the firmware, but with little improvement.

I like the idea of removing suspect apps and seeing if it gets better. I do have a feeling that something like facebook has installed an automatic update and screwed everything up.

I'll have a play later and report back.

Have removed quite a lot of dross - which made no difference.

So I uninstalled facebook ... and things are running much more smoothly ... blasted bloatware must have been hogging some RAM and/or CPU time I think
