House Alarm

Whenever we have a powercut my house alarm,whether it's set or not, goes into alarm mode and sets off the external siren.When I investigate my alarm panel it indicates that one of my PIR's initiated the alarm. My neighbour's system, identical to mine and installed by the same engineer, is not affected by a powercut. Has one of our systems got a fault?

It sounds like yours is the one that's working ok and it's your neighbour who has the problem. Mine activates after a power cut (and so does everyone else's I know) because the anti-tamper device kicks in.

Your system should NOT go into alarm mode on a power outage.When did you last replace the internal battery...they only last about 3 years.The purpose of the battery is to take over system control during a power outage.If the battery is weak and can't cope with the demand of the system during an outage then it will go into alarm mode to warn you to change the battery.

Thank you Bright Spark. The battery in the control box was change one year ago, but is there a battery in the outdoor siren box? If there is,that has'nt been replaced.

Sorry malana, I misunderstood your question, I assumed you meant your alarm goes off when you restore the power (which is normal, according to my user manual) not during the actual power outage.

Theres no battery as such...just a rechargeable cell which will generally last the life of the system.Try changing the battery and if this fails you will need to look towards the pcb.
