Hello BT :)

I've just got a Halifax Clarity Card (mainly for use on foreign hols).

I noticed a post from you in another thread saying that you 'pre-load' your Clarity Card with cash before travelling - effectively making cash withdrawals free of any charge. This seems like a belting idea since I have other fee-free cards which I can use for other purchases - so keeping the Clarity Card nicely ring fenced for cash.

But I've also seen threads on other sites where people say that this is 'against the card's terms and conditions' and that Halifax will do nasty things to you if they spot you doing it.

Have you ever had any problems?

Thanks

Dave xx

Hi sunny-dave, update for you. Have just received my Halifax credit card statement on which I pre-paid £1000 for use abroad, including cash machine withdrawals. I paid the balance ahead of time and the statement is 'nil', furthermore, there is no indication that they frowned on what i had done. He this is helpful for you. BT

Not sure what this means and although you are not asking me -
I have a Halifax clarity card and it is a credit card. Not any kind of a pre payment card.

Yes - I know that grasscarp.

Because of the way that the Clarity Card charges for cash withdrawals (no fixed fee, just interest on the amount withdrawn from the day of withdrawal) if you put the card into a credit balance (say by making a payment of £500 before your holiday) then you could, in theory at least, make cash withdrawals up to this amount for no charge at all.

I think BT has tried this - I just wondered how he had got on.
Interesting question, dave.
Oh I see. I am fortunate as when I am abroad it is almost always on business so any fees I get back.

BT - are you around?
