Can't Open Attachments

Is there any reason why, all of a sudden, Google Chrome won't let me open normal Word email attachments? Attachments that came 2 days ago and are still attached to the email now won't open! The same attachment that I saved to My Documents at the time opens normally. I can only open the email attachment from "ordinary" Google. I use BTYahoo mail by the way.

"Ordinary" Google is the normal google as opposed to google chrome. That article doesn't help as it just gives the history of how btyahoo has changed which I already know about. The puzzle is that things that opened 2 days ago will no longer do so. Help please someone before I go mad!

Yes, it works in Internet Explorer. However when using Google Chrome if I click on the attachment it just wants to save the email as a web page rather than open the attachment. It was fine until 2 days ago. It's the same on both laptops, one running Windows 7, one running Windows 8. I haven't changed any settings etc.
