How Can Nokia Asha Phone Access Internet On Its Own?
5 Answers
I have just been told by Virgin they said I accessed a website at 4.30PM on Sunday. At the time I was driving and using the Bluetooth with the phone on the seat next to me and received or made no calls.
They did refund the money which I spotted quickly by pure chance, but how did this manage to happen? They had no idea and have to put a team onto it to see if they can track down the activity. I have not even activated the internet on the phone as I am on PAYG so have no use for it there and can't even access it until I accept the conditions, which I never will.

Accessing a website seems more difficult to explain though, unless the phone has malware maybe ? Or maybe accidently hitting some button may have done something. As for not having activated the internet, I'm unsure you need to. Just as long as the request to go to the internet is 'pressed'. All in all a bit of a mystery though. Probably worth keeping an eye on what it's doing.
Virgin said they'd get back to me after looking into it, but a phone which can go online without even being registered yet? That's a shocking security hole. I did find it called the operator this week just by pressing the Bluetooth by accident so maybe it can dial anything it wants, or worse still someone else's did via my phone.
If I press the internet button it raises a Nokia internet registration form, which I deliberately didn't fill in as the costs are phenomenal for PAYG users. If there isn't even any security so it can be accessed without passwords or even knowing the user then now I've turned on the Bluetooth can anyone suitably equipped simply piggyback my internet, meaning this may just be the beginning of the ripoffs?
