Pentium 4 Mobo

I have a new Intel P4 Mobo (D865GLC) which classes itself as an mPGA sckt 478 board the P4 Processor is classed as a PPGA sckt 478, whats the difference ?, and can I use the PPGA processor on a mPGA Board ?

I believe that mPGA-478 is just the proper (Intel) name for what we call Socket-478.

PPGA stands for Plastic Pin Grid Array and is a style of manufacture of the CPU.

The relevant piece of information is the number of pins, in this case 478. As long as the socket and the processor have the same number of pins then they are physically compatible. However incompatibility comes into play with regard to which processor speeds the mobo can handle.
