Exactly how are you trying? Here's how I'd do it. Please tell me where my method breaks down for you:

Insert your memory card into the laptop's card reader. If a dialogue box appears, select 'Open folder to view files'. If not, go to 'Computer' and double-click on the icon for the card reader. Either way, you should then see the contents of the card, which (at that point) is likely to be just a single folder, which you should double-click on to open. (If you again get to a single folder, double-click on that as well).

Eventually you should get to a window showing all of your image files. Now open another window alongside it, showing the destination for those files. (e.g. 'My pictures'. Assuming that you want to copy ALL of the files across go back to the first window and click on Edit >Select All. Then simply 'drag and drop' everything from the first folder into the second one.

Buenchico I'll try that. I've just been pushing the card into the laptop or connecting the camera via a USB and waiting for something to happen but nothing happens, I'll try your way in a bit Cheers

I don't seem to have an icon for the card reader, what does it look like?
Go into My Computer and look for 'devices with removable storage' (or similar). On mine it's the D drive. If the memory card has registered with your laptop you should see it there and can double click to carry on.

I Googled 'Picasa' Years ago and downloaded the programme to my laptop.I have never had any problems. I insert the memory card into the front of my Acer laptop and my pics are transferred to Picasa right away. Before I got the Acer I used an All-in-one Usb card reader in my other laptop. From Picasa I can edit, file, save, e-mail etc.etc. It is a brilliant programme .
Good point by methyl, if you are doing it direct from the camera via USB the camera has to be on.

Methyl It's a Samsung Digimax D103 and I can connect with a USB but nothing happens when I switch it on
Prudie I've found the card icon but when I click on it nothing happens!
Question Author
Managed to find the card icon but had to save the photos to my documents as they wouldn't save in my pictures even though I clicked and dragged them there, but at least I've got them on the laptop. I suppose I can transfer them somehow.
