MP3 Players

Hi all,

can anyone tell me if a MP3 Player can be used to record music from a CD via a PC, or can it only be used to record music via the internet?

an mp3 player just plays mp3s.

you can get the mp3s from the internet, or by "ripping" your CD collection onto your computer in mp3 format.

so in summary, it can be used for both.

Cheers fo3nix for the speedy reply. Sorry to be a pain. Don't know what 'ripping' means. Would I need some sort of software to do this?

Yes, you'd need a program like Nero or Roxio CD creator. There are probably many free alternatives available on the net too. Windows Media Player which is part of all Windows systems can do this too, but saves music from CDs in a format called WMA (Windows Media Audio) which isn't the same as MP3, though most new MP3 players support the playback of these files as long as they're not DRM Protected.

Technically you don't actually record anything with an MP3 player, you simply transfer music onto it using a PC. The music can be downloaded from the Internet or copied from the CDs from your collection onto the PC and put onto the player.

Windows Media Player DOES rip to mp3 format.

Go to Tools/Options and select the 'Rip Music' tab and set format to mp3 in the drop-down list.

I use iTunes (software) and convert CD music into MP3s simply by draggin/dropping the files. Easy peasy :)

Just copy your CD's to windows media player, then copy the selected tracks to your device, the PC then converts the tracks to mp3 format.
