Problems With Ie8
19 Answers
Hi, I am having problems with IE8,every time I go to IE it stops working and closes programme,it does not come up with a reason. I think this is why I have had a blue screen message that' windows has shut down to protect my computer' I have not added any new hardware or software. I usually use Chrome but still have my favorites list in IE, copied to Chrome. If I remove IE8 and download the latest version will I loose my favorites list' Imported from IE' in Chrome ? I hope I have explained this problem correctly.

I do have a Lenovo Laptop which I sometimes use and it is loaded with Windows 7 and is operating satisfactorily on IR 9 although I think IE 10 is currently recommended by Microsoft for W7.
Might be worthwhile giving a try of IE 10. You can always revert back to a former edition of IE.
Download IE 10 from.:-

>>>Is your error message actually "Windows has shut down ..." (i.e. computer totally crashed) or "Internet Explorer has shut down ..." (i.e. just the browser crashed)
I think that the dreaded words 'blue screen', in the original post, might well answer that, Methyl. It seems that it's Windows which is crashing, which suggests a partition fault or similar.

Further to my last reply, I have tried to open IE and before even my home page comes up I get the message Internet Explorer has stopped working. I click Cancel and the message returns immediately. Home page same as in Chrome , blackle.com. I have had a bottom screen message blackle.com is not responding due to a long running script. I cannot find IE in my programs to remove it and re-download( although Chrome & Mozilla are there). I am quite happy not using IE but would like to sort out why it is not working correctly.

Hi,I cannot alter the homepage in IE as the IE stopped working notice/box comes up before the home page has had time to load, I am trying to remove IE10 from my pc. It does not show in the list 'Add and Remove ' I have found the file in My Downloads, if I delete this file to the Recycle bin and empty it will this remove IE10 from my pc ? I can then try to reload it or probably better not reload it at all. Everything in Chrome working as it should.Further advice please
Further to my last I have removed IE10 by uninstalling the update and returned to IE8. I still have the same problem. Before I even get my homepage ( blackle.com) IE stops working, closes and reopens the tab showing as Co... and just goes around in circles ie IE stops working, closes and reopens tab etc. I've tried clicking change homepage but IE stops working before I can do anything.Everything else is working ok in Chrome. Obviously a problem with IE but what I have no idea
A little bit about blackle.com. I would add a rider to anyone not to go direct to the website as I have doubts similar to methyls.

It would appear that 'Blackle' makes fundamental changes to Internet Explorer which are not easily reversed. I suspect some of them to include Registry changes.
I don't see an easy way out of this other than a re-install of Windows 7. Just before you do though try a scan with Malwarebytes (free version) and CCleaner and remove anything vaguely connected with 'Blackle.
I'd also empty your 'favorites' folder located at C:/Users/'your name'/favorites
Personally I don't use IE at all, preferring Firefox myself. I do have IE 11 installed which appears to work ok when I use it.

thanks,SlackAlice, I use blackle.com on my desktop pc with Chrome and Firefox with no problems. I also use blackle.com as my homepage with Chrome and IE on my netbook without any problems. The problem is just with IE on my desktop pc. I have put this forward to Microsoft Community to see if they can come up with answers, if they do I'll post there reply.

sorry for delayed answer, methyl, I run Avast antivirus, free version, updated daily.I also have Malwarebytes installed, update daily and scan every few days. On my netbook I use Panda. I have no problems with blackle .com using Chrome on my desktop nor do I have any problem with blackle.com on my netbook either in IE or Chrome.
