tight wads
I suppose it's not so much the price as the principle. Some of those shoppers had queued for 2 hours and more so were entitled to some reward. And, of course, the more cynical among them may have believed the whole thing to be a ploy by the management to get customers through the door.
Question Author
I know the article states otherwise, but I find it hard to believe anyone would queue for any length of time for something that was 50p given that it's original price was only 99p to begin with Ken.
me neither...
So, boo, if you doubt the sincerity of the article, why refer to it at all?
the people queuing for so long i think was the point.
Question Author
I don't doubt the sincerity of it at all. I'm just stunned there's people out there that would do it.

I am however beginning to regret posting this, lol.
Further, i don't believe for one moment that people would have queued for so long for just the one item, boo. Perhaps some of them were spending 20 or 30 quid (doubled to 40 or 60 quids worth of goods). I'd say that was worth queueing for, based on today's lowest pay rates.
Bugger! If I'd known about that I would have gone down there on a jolly.... wonder if ChiiDoubt was there?
Ken, have you ever shopped in these places, i do on the odd occasion, i have yet to see anyone spend more than a fiver, you really don't want to be in there too long at any rate.
A lot of job losses announced for the Wrexham area recently - people probably stretching their already low wages out a bit?
It is a shame the article only shows soft drinks and crisp shelves bereft, if the store also sells more wholesome foodstuffs (tinned veg/fruit etc) I can see that being a draw for families on a tight budget.
Sorry, boo, wasn't getting at you.
Emmie, in one of my local 99p shops (we have a few in sunny Burnley-By-The-Canal) they are offering £2 off any purchases totalling £10!
It's not fair.

They have a 99p Store.

We have a Pound Land.

Why is everything so much more expensive here?
Question Author
Aha! A burnley Man, I should've known, lol.

*waves at you from across t'valley (Rossendale)*
Waving back:-)

(Though you prob can't see me cos of your artificial ski slope)
These shops are always packed in our area . And they do sell a lot of branded products . All kinds of groceries etc. Why pay more for goods if you can get the same items for much less in the 99p or £1 shops?
JJ; you honestly mean to tell me that you have £1 shops in the affluent south?!
