Hi all...I have a USB2 card reader for accessing the pics I take on compact flash media. This has worked perfectly for nearly 2 years but three days ago it was "missing" at boot up. Merely unplugging and replugging it into the same USB2 slot makes it reappear and work perfectly untill the next reboot. Troubleshooting it seems impossible as it is not there to troubleshoot until I do the replug bit, then it is perfect so no problem shows up..............any ideas please?....commoner ..Win XP is the OS.

Try this: Unplug USB reader then head for Device Manager. Highlight your reader and uninstall it. If not forced to do so after exitting Device Manager, perform a reboot.

Next get the disc that came with the reader (may not be necessary as XP will treat reader as an extra drive) and pop this in the drive. After this plug in reader and it will go through the "Found New Hardware" routine and install the drivers in the right place.

...mmm.....if I unplug the device it merely disappears from the list.........plugging back in makes it work again so..the disc I got was just for installing under Win 98se etc... but for XP it was just a case of plug it in............sort of puzzled now..........thanx for trying commoner.
