Remote Control For Toshiba Dvd Recorder

I bought this DVD recorder about 4 years ago and used the same remote .. the old remote stopped working ... i changed batteries and no use ... so bought a new one RM series ... the same that was in the pack ... now after 2 months this has packed up on me .... again changed the batteries but nothing .... before I buy a new one ( again ) has anyone any ideas ?? I have cleaned the dvd recorder and nothing around to interfere apart from TV .... what am I doing wrong ... could I have pressed soemthing on the remote to stop it working ..... thanks for any suggestions ...

at a push cant you operate it from the machine itself
one of mine is an lg dvd recorder a few years old but i can use it with out the remote

Hi Ivor ...... the controls on the remoe operate the DVD player but not the recorder ......Whiskeryron I will check out this link .. Thanks to all
