Infinity Broadband - Poor Range
10 Answers
Hi,
Had BT Infinity Broadband installed a few weeks ago. Firstly, the speed is not the 60-70 mbps advertised (about 42), but more importantly we are unable to use any internet based device upstairs! This was not an issue with our old BT Home Hub 3 - we had fine coverage throughout the house, but slow speeds.
BT says it is not the BT Home Hub 5 that is at fault and will not send an engineer. It is arguing that it is interference within our property? Why should this be; the router is in the same location as before and no new electrical products have been placed near it. All BT could suggest was a booster or removal of interference (like how?). This is very frustrating, we are locked into a more expensive contract for a poorer service. Anyone else experienced this and any ideas on my rights to demand action. Thanks.

You don't say what devices you have. I have the Hub 5 and I found some of my devices needed reconnecting using the WPS button. The other thing to check is the SSID. You need to change it to the same as you were using before to avoid changing all the devices. If you use the SSID that is marked on the card, then all devices need to be reconnected to match the new SSID. Easier to use your old one. Don't forget to use a decent password so your wifi is secure.

So, If you have internet connection speed problem with your wireless try with the following steps,
1.)Reset the wireless router by using the power switch on it or by unplugging it and plugging it back in.
2.)Place the wireless router in an ideal location. The higher it is, the better, but don't put it near metal objects.
3.)Get as close as possible to the router with whatever device you're trying to connect.
4.)Keep the router and your connecting device away from other electronics. You should especially keep away from phones, fax machines and microwaves. etc.,
5.)Adjust the Wifi antenna if it has one.
6.)Change the router's channel, especially if other wireless routers are nearby.Following these steps would give you stable internet connection and also increased speed in connection. You can check your internet speed from before and after following these steps.
