Try this:
Right-click on the task bar. Select 'Task Manager' and then the 'Processes' tab. Click on explorer.exe. Click 'End Process' and then 'Yes'. (Your task bar will disappear. Don't worry!). Click the 'Applications' tab and then on 'New Task'. Type 'explorer.exe' and click 'OK'.
chris this happens quite a lot on mrs c's desktop the speaker icon goes missing at the bottom why does this happen any idea?
It seems to be a fault with Microsoft Explorer, Bernie. Simply stopping it and restarting it seems to fix the problem.
