My web host provides me with one SQL database of my choice, does this mean that I could still create or find from another source another database that I can display on my site or that only one SQL database will work with my website. I'm with AFMU.com

Alternatively does anyone know of a site that provides calender space that several users could add events to for every visitor to look at. I.E. functions in various rooms of a building.

1 SQL Server database can hold a lot of information. Calendar info, web content... anything you wish.

So I'm not sure what you are asking. I think you are confused as to what a database is.

I understand what a database is I use access frequently, however it will require two databases as they are pre-designed scripts that are and fully formatted for you. One is a noticeboard site provided by phpbb, there is no provision within the noticeboard forum to hold the calender function I was refering to, however sourceforge.net do a calender that would be perfect. My webhost though as I said lets you install either one or the other through the fantastico system. So if I needed both functions would I have to remove the noticeboards and learn mysql to create a whole new database to fulfil both functions?

Edit the scripts so that they install to one database..... I doubt very much they have table names that clash.

I think they mean MySql rather than SQL Server, MySql is the command (DOS) based database connection similar to the early Jet or ISAM connections ( its probably one and the same thing anyway ).

SQL Server requires a Windows based server and in which case you cannot run it on Apache ( that I am aware of ), SQL Server as backend database running on a Windows Server through IIS using ASP ( Active Server Pages ) is usually the norm.

As Regards PHP / CGI and MySQL you will have to ask someone else, as I dont use that.

You can run Apache just fine on Windows. But it's correct that it's likely to be a MySQL database.
