My system is horrendously slow and I find/think since changing to AVG antivirus being the problem so when I need to go into my sites I have to disable AVG as it is constantly updating. (That sentence took about 1 minute whereby it should have been seconds). Anybody recommend another free antivirus - thanks. JJCon - Was with MSE

PS My adblocker is no longer working too and I did download another one yesterday but the ads keep coming up

Your description is unfamiliar to me. For sure all AV updates its data on a regular vabasis, AVG ebign no exception, but changes to the programme should be fairly rare. It might be worthwhile finding out why you think it is always updating and with what. And why it takes so long.

As for ads it depends on what sort. There are legitimate ads from websites, and there are ads put there by malware infections. You may be wise to run a Malwarebytes scan first, just in case. Particularly worth doing if you go around disabling your AV all the time. Might even be worth you running a free AV check from the Web.
It sound to me more like you have some malware on your PC which is stopping AVG from updating. Try installing Malwarebytes and running this first.
Download and run a short Scan of Malwarebytes; the free edition :-
