I ordered a music CD off eBay and when I played it on the computer (Windows) it sounded like a badly tuned (analogue) radio. I ripped some tracks just in case but that was no better. I checked on Linux and still no joy.
I was going to send it back but I thought I would check in the car, where it turned out everything was hunky-dory.
Is this potentially a digital rights management thing? And if so, how can I get round it? I don't have any other CD player and I'd like to be able to listen in the house..
(Or is there a problem with my DVD drive? I've never noticed any issue before)
Download VLC Player - in case its whatever program you are using has a problem. Right click on the disk in My Computer (assuming you are using windows) and select Open With then select VLC Player
It's a proper CD with artwork, which the computer recognized as an audio CD.
I tried it in Media Center (which, incidentally, started updating itself over 3g without asking), Media Player, VLC, Grub, Audacious. All of it sounded terrible except the CD changer in the car.
House is a bit spartan atm so I don't have any other way of playing it except the car, and I've never noticed any problems with the DVD drive before. There's never been an issue with the sound quality on the computer either. :s
