Circle Beside Battery Icon On Iphone 5S

There is a circle turning beside the battery icon on my iphone. I looked online and it suggested that it was turning because my GPS was on. I have turned it off in Settings but the circle is still turning. I presume that it means that something else is running but how do I know what it is?

A turning circle normally means the phone is syncing with iTunes possibly over wifi.

Is the circle actually moving? You may have accidentally put the phone into Portrait Lock.

Yes, the circle is moving clockwise. What is portrait lock Chilldoubt?

I only ever synch vis the cable with the laptop Fitzer.

ok I have looked up portrait lock and that is a different type of circle.

Ggrrr its still turning and I think it's draining my battery a lot. Is there anything else i could try? Thanks.
