HI there. I recently cleaned my cd writer lens using a cd cleaner (which is also used for CD roms as it says on the CD sleeve), but ever since i have used it, music and mp3's fail to burn on blank cd's. The cd burner sofware indicates music is burned on the cd but when i take it out of the cd writer to play on the hi-fi - it turns out to be a blank unused cd - nothing being burnt. All this started problem started ever since I cleaned my cd writer lens with the cd cleaner.Any help ? thank you

Aqeel,
You're not going to like this answer!
The laser lens on a CD writer is moves close to the CD, therefore when you put the cleaning CD in, it hits the lens carriage instead of brushing it lightly.
Chances are you'll have to buy a new writer.

aqueel - if what Ray the DJ is correct and the cleaning CD did damage your writer and it does state it can be used on a writer I would try and get some compensation from the cd cleaner manufacturer.

Ray the DJ - if I understand your comment correctly you say the laser moves in close to the head while burning a CD.  If this is so then normally when just playing a CD the Laser is out of the way.  My point being that when you use one of these cleaning CD's in a standard audio player you just play the CD.  If you do this on a writer and just play the CD then does the laser not stay out of the way.  I would have thought that if what you say is correct then damage would only occur when trying to burn info onto the cleaning CD?  Forgive me if I'm wrong but I would be pleased if you could clarify this.  Cheers

Well the my CD Writer is working now - all i did was re-install the cd burning software i use. By doing this, the cd writer is now working well strange as it may seem. To be on the safe side, i always record on a lower speed when burning music. Thanks for your help people.
