Acer Aspire 5315 Running Ubuntu

I have ploughed through the net, trying to get my 5315 off of ubuntu, as the os causes the fan not to rev up, so cuts out any time any videos played. the fan runs, but slowly. it appears ubuntu is the problem, but i cannot get the laptop to install from disc or usb, i tried alt..F10, on the acer start page, nothing. there seems to be some patches to make the fan work, but they are to technical for me to understand. any ideas?? thank you.

Updating the BIOS might well work. (It's widely reported as fixing the problem on several forums). Instructions here:
