Yes it can.

Oooops - a little American friend of mine is home and her sister asked her would she bring her an IPAD - American said all kinds of things like you have to activate the IPAD before entering a plane. You have to pay "her lingo" "all kinds of monies".

I know her very well and something is not right there. Time will tell - she is home for some time. Thanks Eccles for clarifying that.
She is correct that the ipad would have to be working to board an aircraft (new security regs) but does 'working' mean 'registered'?
Surely it could be re-registered even if the initial purchaser registers it to their own name, otherwise how do people manage when they buy secondhand ipads?

Right Zacs - I guess then, it would have been too much hassle for her as she is not computer-literate.
I believe Apple only honour the warranty of a product in the Country of purchase too.
I think you will also find that Apple regulates prices worldwide so that they work out virtually the same in all countries.

Hans.
I bought my IPOD in Chicago. Works great anywhere in the world I take it.
Yes, it will work in the UK. It would have to have some battery life to be brought into an aircraft - it doesn`t have to be registered but it could be plugged into a power socket for a while before the flight. Alternatively, it could be put into the hold but I wouldn`t put anything valuable in the hold.
There is also the issue of customs payment, and yes, Mamya is right, the warranty won't work in the UK.
The charger for a US iPad will be designed to work at 120V, not 230V, and will have a US plug fitted to it.

There is no Import Tax on iPads but there's 20% VAT to be paid to HMRC on arrival in this country.
Chargers make no difference. I take my tablet all over the world and it works with all voltages - that`s what it`s designed to do. The only difference is that some voltages (120 etc) take longer to charge the battery than others. If the plug is a problem you just buy a UK one.
