Problem With Java

Over the weekend, as so many other people were, I was affected by the 'Java' update whilst I was using Firefox. On sunday I decided to use IE and to my surprise it was unaffected. Tonight, using IE, I came to AB to see if the problem had been fixed and a few posts suggested it had. I then loaded Firefox and came to AB and straightaway got the 'Java' prompt, so is it fixed or do I need to do something to get rid of it from Firefox? I prefer Firefox to IE will unistalling Firefox and re-installing it work does anybody know. Kaspersky scans say there are no threats in the computer

Uninstall Java.

When I go to the control panel and click uninstall I cannot find Java anywhere, any other ideas please? Thanks for that though

The message was a rogue message TTG- it had nothing to do with whether you have Java or not in my view

If you are still getting the rogue Java update then suggest a scan with Malwarebytes free from here

When installing 'opt out' for a free trial of the full version. Once installed 'update' its definitions file and then run a 'Threat Scan', it can take some time, so be patient.

I uninstalled then reloaded Java afresh this morning after being driven mad with pop-ups and it's been fine since.

@douglas9401....Do you really need Java which can be a real conduit for Malware being introduced into computers/laptops.

Neither of my 2 pc's have Java installed. Been Java (other than coffee!) free for several years.

I don't have it either. I don't play games, someone told me you need it for games, so good to know it's not necessary.

The at the weekend issue had nothing to do with whether you have java installed or not.
If your browser, Firefox, IE or anything else, was equipped to deal with the ad causing the irritating redirect, when you wouldn't have had the issue.
The offending ad seems to have been removed so not sure why you are getting the problem, if it is the same one.
Nor will running a virus or malware scan help, unless the offending item has already installed unwanted software on your computer. My antivirus stopped the download anyway, The irritation was that navigating around the website became impossible.

@cashier......Perhaps you never had Java and as indicated by factor-fiction, it was a false up-date message. If Kaspersky says there are No Threats, then don't be worried and leave your Firefox alone for the moment but post again if the message re-appears. Meanwhile do as suggested by Slack Alice and run a scan with Malwarebytes.

Just to add that Java is, in my opinion, harmless, for the normal user but browsers, and websites that use it, now have lots of built-in warnings if the version you are running is out of date. Which is no doubt why the toerags responsible for this false "java update" redirect think they can easily fool people.
