Help! Have I Just Given My Details To A Scammer Or Ppi Number?
28 Answers
I had a call earlier and was still groggy from lack of sleep and medication and got a call from "01913009015" Who knew my name and had my new mobile phone no and said they were a Ppi company. I took out a loan a few years ago and am broke so answered quite a few questions as they said they'd send me a pack to fill in i thought that I may be able to get some money back which is well needed.
They asked have I taken any more loans out/Have I been bankrupt/Do I owe anything on any cards/ Did I take out ppi and a few others
I don't think I gave out any too personal details but I did tell roughly how much the loan was. Roughly the year I took it out. The bank I took it out with and my date of birth and my postcode and employer I was with when I took the loan(Stupid I know)
I wasn't going to give bank details, pin numbers or anything more personal.
I've looked up the number and some are saying it's phishers some say scammers and others say sales/ppi.
Does anyone know whether these people are legit and if not have I given out too much information? Could they do anything with the information I've given? If so what can I do to protect myself now?
They said they'll send me out a pack and will phone me next wednesday and I've since blocked their number.

It could be anyone, and you can bet that if you went ahead with them, they'd take a substantial amount of the PPI recovered as commission. You have given them a lot of personal details to someone you don't know who they are.
If you wanted to recover PPI, I hope you'd choose the company (or do it yourself), not just go with the first company who rings you.

No Baldric that would have definitely sent the alarm bells ringing.
Can they do anything with my bank name/My address/d.o.b email address and name and phone number or am I relatively safe?
Maybe stage 2 of the scam would be when they phone me next to try and harvest my bank details? Or maybe that's ploy to keep me waiting while they plunder my account or try and get a loan/card in my name?

Note you don't have to go through these PPI companies to get any cash back (and they take a cut anyway).
You can go to the bank concerned directly yourself to try get it sorted.
p.s. You say you were half asleep when they rang but you certainly seem to give them a lot of information. NEVER give out ANY information to someone who phones you up out the blue.
A cold caller could be anyone and you would not give out the same sort of personal information if you met a total stranger in the high street would you !

my neighbour had a phonecall purporting to be from the fraud squad at her bank as they said someone trying to get £750 out of her bank. As she had recently come back from holiday in north of England she did answer their questions. They then said if she was concerned to ring the tel number on the back of her bank card. She visited her local bank where they told her that if she had phoned that number the scammer could listen into her call and get all the details she would have had to give them! Seemingly the bank stops them listening in after 90 seconds but think that should be changed so they cant listen in at all or cut off after one second. thankfully no money removed but she is much more careful now. Her daughter got the same call the next day and both reported matter to the local police.
looks like the company were phising for your details to maybe sell on -this is the company
