Talktalk E-Mails And Windows 8.1

I've bought a new laptop that has Windows 8.1 I have tried absolutely everything I can find, to be able to click on "mail" and see my e-mails without having to go into the TalkTalk site. I've gone through all the options, filled in all the bits and bobs, and still when I press the final button, wait with bated breath as the dots go round the circle and the screen says it's in progress - the red writing comes up to say "cannot sync e-mails". Does anyone have anything I can try please? I've used the step-by-step on the TalkTalk site, the Windows site, and some community sites. It's driving me up the wall!

Is it an old Tiscali e mail address?

I had that and it used old technology not compatible with Windows 8 mail.

I cured that by getting an e mail address with up to date technolgy.

Someone else more qualified can perhaps explain.

Thank you both - it's not an old Tiscali address, and I have already tried all the things in the first link. I think it might be because it's 8.1 rather than 8. Thanks for trying though... I'll keep plodding on. x
