Vanishing Television Channels

The other day, my television screen told me I had to update the channels, or the tuning, or something, and to press the "OK" button. I did so. It took some time, and gave me messages about how many dozens of channels it had sorted out, and it told me when it had finished. I am quite sure I did only what the screen told me to do, but a lot of the channels are now missing . Especially 3,4,5,6, and 33, etc, which means I can't watch ITV news either at 10 p.m. or at 11.p.m.
Any ideas ?
( I bought a new freeview box not long ago, by the way)

Had same problem & still takes ages to find news. Have to write it on my hand c107?

If you look in the EPG (guide) you will probably see all the usual channels, but some on different numbers from previously.

You can either get used to watching them on the 'wrong' numbers, or move them around to get them back to where they were (every freeview box can do this, but the instructions will be different for each box).

Freeview was updated on 3 September.
When stuff is updated it someimtes gets stuffed.

You may be between two transmitters.
In which case your channels may be shifted to 800+
So BBC1 may be 801
BBC2 may be 802
ITV may be 803
etc etc

Maybe your receiver is having problems finding th4 signal. Perish when it knows where to look if find sufficient signal to show the channel but if looking it doesn't register as a worthwhile channel ? I'm just guessing here but wonder if you signal/area is borderline. Do you have another Freeview box to test it with ? Is your aerial pointing at the best transmitter for you ?

Ah yes a further thought. When you rescan do so from scratch rather than choose an option that suggests you keep the data you already have and simply look for new channels. That can mess up the numbering.

If the signal strength at your house isn't particularly strong, your Freeview box won't necessarily be able to 'lock onto' all of the available 'multiplexes' (= 'bundles of channels') in a single scan.

If, like my own Freeview box, there are separate options for 'Replace channels' and 'Add channels', you might need to do an initial scan using 'Replace channels' and then another one using 'Add channels'. (Actually, to get all available channels, you might need to do an 'Add channels' scan several times after the initial 'Replace channels' one. I usually need to do that).

If you've not got separate 'Replace' and 'Add' options available, you could try recanning repeatedly until everything locks into place. Ideally, perform your scans early in the morning with your computer and monitor turned off (because there's less chance of your neighbours having similar equipment turned on at that time), as all electronic equipment generates signals which can interfere with a scan.
