I suppose that this quest for advice should really be in the Technical section but I have put it in News because this is where I see links asked for or provided the most. I was asked to provide a link to a story I had read in yahoo News which I posted here last week. I had to confess I did'nt know how to as I am not that computer literate. What little I do know is self taught as I bumble along in the dark. Is it difficult to provide a link from, say, yahoo news and how do you do it in simple non too techy words? TIA

I'll have a stab at it, retrocop,....although it'll be like the blind leading the blind...;)
First of all.....do you know how to cut + paste?

Right click on url, click on copy. Go to where you want to display link, right click and click paste.
It's really easy retro... have a look at this, should help

Thanks for all your replies. I've seen my wife cut and paste the wallpaper Bathsheba. That is the extent of my knowledge.I will wait for mem sahib to finish work. I think she does cutting and pasting on this computer and my techy son would definitely know whenever he next visits. Thanks also mazie and danny. See you in a while.
I was going to try + tell you in simple non too techy words, as you asked, retrocop, because I'm pretty useless + had to be reminded how to do it when I came back on here.
Ok, so I've gone into my Yahoo News, + have picked out the story entitled "Scottish referendum is too close to call". Click on that headline,...+ you will see "https://uk.news.yahoo.com/scottish referendum etc in bar at top of page.
If you put your mouse pointer in that bar + click,....it should turn blue.....
are you with me so far?
Question Author
Yes Bathsheba so far.
Good-oh.
Ok then, next,...making sure it's still blue,....right click your mouse.....
Question Author
My last click was a right click. Were the first two clicks left or right?
Aah, no,...we've not reached the dizzy heights of right-clicking yet, lol,....just left clicking so far, lol. Let me know when all is blue please.....
Question Author
Yes finally got it to go blue.
Ok. So next, right click,....+ a drop-down menu should appear looking like this
Undo
Cut
Copy
Paste

Now,...left-click on either Cut, or Copy,....doesn't really matter,.....then just think of that as being "saved" in your mouse.
Then go to where you want to put link ,.....right click again,....another drop-down menu should appear,....right click on Paste......good luck!
...errrmm...just realised I may have misled you there....when you get to where you want to paste link, you need to left-click 1st....sorry...:(

Bathsheba
Thank you so much for all your time and patience. I will copy/print your instructions and follow them through. I will let you know on chatterbank how I get on later and may be provide a link of some sort just to show you I cracked it with YOUR help. Wish I could link you a bunch of flowers for your kindness.
Many Thanks again.
Are you stuck with all this pasting?
You're most welcome retro! Just hope we don't get told off for "chatting in a non-chat area" of Answerbank, which I have just read is one of the Rules ;)

Lol @ Sipowicz!

Also,...forgot to mention,.....when you paste your link, make sure it is in a clear space, with no text on either side. Do any further typing on a new line or in a new paragraph.
Question Author
Well I made the request so I will take the rap Bathsheba. Sipowicz. You know where you can stick that comment ??? :)
Good lad retro.....one can always trust a Welshman ;)

Nope, on 2nd thoughts, that might confuse matters even further....I've just cherry-picked this from it.......

make sure that you include the http:\\ part and do not have any characters other than spaces immediately before or after the link
