Skype Upgrade

I have Skype on my computer and also on my Kindle fire. have recently updated the Skype program as advised. Unfortunately my Kindle is not allowing me to operate Skype.
On going to the Skype icon on the carousel it launches OK. it then asks for my name(which is already in) it also asks for my password. after putting in the password I get a message as follows You cannot be signed in at this time please check your mobile network setting and try again.
I am now confused as I haven't a clue as to how to go about this.
Can anyone please help me as I wish to talk to my son who is working in The Arab Emerates
