Filmon.com
I have been watching EastEnders on filmon.com (free) ever since BBC Entertainment decided to stop it on their Nordic package. I have also been watching Downtown Abbey this way.
My problem is that it is not entirely reliable and while better than nothing I must quite often give up and miss some enjoyable entertainment.
Is their anyone who knows something about this and can come with some wise words?

Eh? I don't understand that. The whole point of Expat Shield (assuming that's what you mean by 'the first') is that it re-routes your internet traffic via UK servers, so that the the BBC think that you live here. It's thus only of use to people who live OUTSIDE the UK!

If you can trick the BBC's web servers into thinking that you're in the UK, you can watch online via the BBC iPlayer. Lots of people use Expat Shield successfully to do just that:

(If you give it a try, take care when installing it so that you don't also install bundled 'extras' that you don't want).
There are also commercial services which do the same thing. e.g:
