How can you get rid of blaster worm from windows 2000 laptop if computer wont start up?

Instructions for removal on web sites I have looked at state, press ctrl,alt, delete, to bring up task manager but unable to bring up task manager. Computer stays on shutdown.

Any help will appreciated.

boot your laptop in "Safe Mode" (often done by pressing something like F8 lots as it boots).
Download fixblaster.exe from t'internet
Once blaster free, make sure antivirus, firewall and windows updates are all up to date and in use.

Does this help any? Keep us up to date with what you can and can't get going.

When you boot into Windows, immediately press start, run and type cmd then press ok or the enter key.

type "shutdown -a" without the inverted commas and press enter.

Then go onto the windows update site, and install the updates, this should cure it.

Just to amend my last answer, type "shutdown -a" and wait till your pc announces that it is going to shutdown before pressing enter.

Thanks for help, have now reformatted and reinstalled system drivers, nothing else would work, but thanks again for advice.
