Stupid Computery Type Question

I got a new laptop delivered this morning and it is downloading 'stuff' from the web thing.

It is going to take another 25 to 37 hours. It seems to be doing whatever its doing okay but I want to go to bed.

I have adjusted the setting so that it won't go onto power saving - if I shut the lid will that be okay - I don't want to interfere with the download.

I can't leave it open as my little girl likes stomping all over keyboards - it's a cat thing.

wolf, I'd have thought any software should come preloaded - it might need the odd update, but no way 25 hours worth, not at all!

can you stop or pause it till you get better advice here?

It's okay - I kept my back-up online and then my PC died. I am now downloading it on to the laptop.

I am not used to using a laptop but Merlin will go to sleep on the keyboard if she gets a chance.

I am going to have fun uninstalling things like McAfee - but another day.

Thanks for your help. My brain runs out of steam at this time of night so making a decision is almost impossible.

Have a good Christmas. - I have confiscated both cats new toys already. There is only so much jingling that I can cope with.

Have you got something like a laundry basket you could put over the top of your laptop, wolf, while it does it's thing ? Ziggi likes to get behind mine while I'm working on it and pulls out the plugs if he can, then ambushes my fingers round the ends ...with his claws out !

You both seem to know me too well.

I will rig something on the machine. Merlin is stupid and will run off if she is startled.

I think that Frankie is keen to get in and write up his blog.
