Every day this laptop does nowt for about half an hour because of updates .surely it cant be updating every time I turn it on .How do I stop this or else it goes in the bin (sorry recycling department of our local council for electrical stuff.

You can turn off automatic windows updates and set it so you check for updates when you want to.

do you wait till the whole updates are downloaded and applied if you dont let this happen and some can take a long time it will just start over again on next start up
