If I put a comment or post an a page of a group that I belong to how can I stop it showing up on my home page for all non group members to see?

As far as I know if you post on a group it only shows up on the group. I belong to a few and posts have never come up on my timeline. Your friends will only see what you've posted if they are members of that group too.
It depends too on the status of the group

C. Anyone can ask to join or be added or invited by a member
S.Anyone, but they have to be added or invited by a member
